Hamptons wins Tennex cricket tournament
Muscat Tennex Cricket League - Orange Ball (sponsored by DS Sports), a tournament in which 48 teams participated and has been going on for over a year, has come to a conclusion with a thrilling match between Hamptons CC and Profab Tigers.
Each of the 48 teams has their own home ground and the entire tournament was organised through an app called cricclub in a very organised manner. The final was played at Al Hail Cricket Club, which was a neutral venue for both the finalists.
Winning the toss, Hamptons decided to field in the 16 overs final, and it was rightly supported by its bowlers to reduce Profab Tigers to 47 for 7 in 8 overs. A late partnership, helped Profab to get to a respectable 130 in 16 overs.
Chasing a competitive 130, Hamptons lost 4 early wickets, but then a sensible partnership took the game to 96/7 in 12 overs, leaving 35 to get in 24 balls. But power striker Ali Hassan had other ideas, who struck 4 massive sixes in a span of next 8 balls to finish the match with 2 overs to spare.
Captain Mohamed Ayjaz (Hamptons CC) had high words of appreciation for the organising committee for hosting such a wonderful tournament. He also appreciated Hamptons International for all the support and backing.
When asked about why no Hamptons player won any individual awards, the captain emphasised on having a very strong balanced side and not just a few individuals. Every player at Hamptons CC is a champion match winner, he said.
Vice captain Ahmed Khan (Hamptons) pointed the enthusiasm of the boys for not losing a single game in the year long tournament.
Runner-up captain Ishtiaq (Profab) mentioned that certainly Hamptons was the better team on the day.
“But I am more than happy for the achievement of my boys to make it so far. It was a well fought final,” he said.
