Amerat Charity has distributed over 1,400 food baskets, targeting 1,920 families, in the wilayat of Amerat.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Adel al Maashari, a member of Amerat Charity, said, “The group was started in Amerat to support needy families in 2012. We are a group of 42 young Omanis.”

In cooperation with some Omani families, Amerat Charity also prepares iftar meals for distribution.

The Ramadan baskets for distribution include rice, oil and flour.

“We have already distributed food baskets to more than 1,400 families from our target of 1,920 for this Ramadan,” Maashari said.

“We prepare about 100 iftar meals and distribute these from 4pm to 6pm among families affected financially by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic - families with limited income and Omani employees who have been laid off.”

Amerat Charity also feeds and sponsors 116 orphans, paying rent, electricity and water bills of their accommodation facilities. Additionally, the team distributes gifts to families and orphans in Eid al Fitr.

“We are cooperating with the Ministry of Social Development, which provides us the names of social security families that need help. The Oman Charitable Organization (OCO) has given us 550 vouchers to distribute among needy families,” Maashari said.

“The team aims to spread the culture of volunteerism and social solidarity among members of society. We are also eager to support products of productive families.”

Amerat Charity’s plans for the future include taking its charity work to other governorates next year.

“Those interested in participating in our activities can reach us at 96055050 or Instagram and Twitter via amirat_charity,” said Maashari.
