Indian spiritual guru to bike into Oman

- Our Correspondent

Prominent Indian spiritual leader and humanitarian Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev will be stopping by in Oman on May 25 enroute his 100-day motorcycle journey from the United Kingdom to India.

Named ‘A Journey to Save Soil’, it will take him to 26 countries, over 30,000km, where Sadhguru will be interacting with experts, leaders and citizens to address the impending soil crisis and garner much-needed support and push for concerted action to save soil.

Sadhguru will be interacting with a live audience on May 25 at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. “Questions may arise as to how we could improve the quality of soil when we stand in the middle of a desert. This is nothing but a lack of proper understanding. The country is among the most successful in the region in terms of boosting agricultural production,” Sadhguru said of Oman.

“Latest technologies are being explored here as many Omani researchers are taking to study about soil. It is interesting to note that Oman had declared 2019 as the Year of Soil to highlight the declining fertility of soil. And all these developments emphasise the urgent need to protect the sultanate’s soil wealth,” he added.

Sadhguru kicked off his motorcycle journey from the UK on March 21, 2022. “It’s extremely important that we act now. I’ve been talking about this for over 24 years, but a solution can only happen when there is positive policy in every nation," Sadhguru told reporters assembled at the Indian High Commission in the UK in London before setting off on his bike tour.

"It is still snowing in many parts of Europe and we’ll be going through that on a twowheeler. At this age, it’s not really a joy ride. So why am I doing this? Because over 300,000 farmers have committed suicide in the last 20 years. Not just in India, across the world this is happening... one of the main concerns is soil depletion," he explained.

The ‘Save Soil’ movement, launched as part of the Isha Foundation’s Conscious Planet initiative is aimed at turning the world’s attention towards dying soil and growing desertification.

The initiative seeks to activate and demonstrate citizen support across nations, and empower governments to initiate policydriven action to revitalise soil and halt further degradation. The initiative aims to reach 3.5bn people.
