Sur - Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group) and South Sharqiyah Governor's Office signed a pact to develop several tourism projects in the governorate on Friday.

The signing aligns with Omran’s endeavours to work in tandem with various stakeholders in order to stimulate the growth of the sultanate’s tourism sector.

The pact was signed by Yahya bin Badr al Mawali, Governor of South Sharqiyah, and Mohammed bin Salim al Busaidi, chairman of Omran Group, in the presence of several officials from both parties.

Under the pact, Omran will provide technical support as well as supervise the execution of the multi-phased projects being developed in the governorate. Phase 1 will see development of two parks, one in Al Suwaih spread over an area of 65,000sqm, and the other in Al Ashkharah on 14,000sqm of land.

The two parks will provide a variety of tourism and entertainment facilities, including dining areas, retail outlets, children’s playgrounds and camping sites.

“The governorate draws plenty of local and inbound tourists owing to its rich and diverse destinations, which we seek to exploit, jointly with various stakeholders, to further stimulate the governorate’s tourism,” Mawali said.

“Our collaboration with Omran aims at upgrading tourism services and products within those destinations, which in turn will open prospects and promising opportunities for local businesses and SMEs in the governorate.”

On the occasion, Busaidi said, “This signing comes within the framework of the existing collaboration between Omran and South Sharqiyah Governor's Office reflecting our vision and optimistic approach towards growing the sultanate’s tourism sector and diversifying tourism products and services within different governorates.”

Omran is also working to further explore tourism development opportunities in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism besides various other stakeholders.

Omran owns three hospitality assets in South Sharqiyah - Atana Stay Al Ashkharah, Ras al Jinz Turtle Reserve and the Masirah Island Resort.
