The Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments arising from the COVID19 pandemic has decided to lift all precautionary measures in all places and for all activities.

In a statement, the committee called on all to continue preventive health practices, and stay at home and not meet others in the event of a fever or any respiratory symptoms. It also urged community members to wear a mask in case of contact with a patient, and the elderly, those with immunodeficiency and chronic diseases in particular, to follow the preventive measures.

The Supreme Committee also called on citizens and residents to take the booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

It commended the constructive role of government, private and civil agencies in following preventive measures and their contribution to limiting the spread of the pandemic.

The Civil Aviation Authority also issued a statement based on the decisions of the Supreme Committee. ‘The authority hereby informs all passengers and aircraft operators in Oman that all precautionary measures and procedures of COVID-19 in civil aviation sector are lifted’.

The decision sparked a flurry of comments on social media. Dr Said al Muharrami tweeted, “We thank the Supreme Committee for its efforts in the last couple of years. The decision will lead to the return of normal life, the prosperity of commercial activity, improvement of the business environment, and the growth of tourism. Entrepreneurs and investors will be encouraged to expand their businesses.”

Faisal bin Omar al Marhoon thanked the authorities for the decision, adding, “We ask God to protect Oman, its people, and all those who live on its land, and to end this pandemic forever.”

Another twitterati, Khalid bin Ghaleb al Shanfari said, “We might be at the end of the pandemic, but it has left deep scars and sorrow in its wake. We thank God and ask Him to count those who died from this disease among the martyrs and the righteous.”
