Oman-egypt ties to scale new heights

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik will head to the Arab Republic of Egypt on Sunday. With the visit, Oman-egypt relations are set to scale new heights, ushering in a new era of prosperity and expanded cooperatio­n.

The visit is affirmatio­n of the depth of historical relations between the sultanate and Egypt and the keenness of the two countries’ leadership­s to enhance ties.

The two countries are bound by deep-rooted ties, which will be consolidat­ed further by His Majesty the Sultan’s historic visit, his first official visit to Egypt since he assumed power on January 11, 2020.

The relations between the two countries were bolstered with President Abdul Fattah el Sisi’s visit to Muscat in June 2022 and with His Majesty’s tour, it will have a further positive impact.

It is worth mentioning that Oman and Egypt signed a number of Mous and executive programmes during President Sisi’s visit to Oman.

Oman-egypt relations are establishe­d on solid and enduring principles reflected in the tangible progress made between the two countries in political, economic, social, cultural and security spheres.

The visit is evidence of these

relations being continuous, open and expected to see further comprehens­ive growth.

Figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Informatio­n indicate that the volume of trade exchange between Oman and Egypt increased in 2022, amounting to Ro393.628mn, compared to Ro217.742mn in 2021.

The value of Omani exports to

Egypt increased from Ro157.515mn in 2021 to Ro298.077mn in 2022, while the value of imports amounted to Ro95.551mn in 2022, compared to Ro60.227mn in 2021.

Data shows that the balance of trade between the two countries in 2022 was in favour of Oman, amounting to Ro202.526mn.

The two countries’ keenness to exchange views on matters of common concern is reflected in high-level meetings between leaders and top officials, and evinced in the continuous contacts between His Majesty the

Sultan and President Sisi.

Omani-egypt diplomacy converges on many visions, notably combating terrorism and safeguardi­ng internatio­nal peace and security.

His Majesty Sultan Haitham’s visit to Egypt and his meeting with President Sisi will give impetus to the bilateral relations and constitute a new beginning to establish a prosperous future for the peoples of the two countries. This visit will open vistas of cooperatio­n in the fields of business and investment among others.
