MOE organises seminar on ‘positive citizenship’ for building responsible society
The Ministry of Education (MOE), represented by the Directorate-general of Curriculum Development ‘ Citizenship Department’, implemented on Monday morning a training seminar entitled ‘Positive Citizenship towards Building a Responsible Society’.
The training seminar targeted twenty members of the Parents Councils in the Governorate of Muscat and took place at the training centre in Al Khuwair, Muscat.
Sabeha al Haimli, an educational researcher in the Citizenship Programmes Department at the Citizenship Department carried out the seminar presenting two papers.
The first paper was entitled ‘The Role of Educational Institutions in Promoting Positive Citizenship Values (The Family as a Model)’.
The paper dealt with the concept of positive citizenship, its importance at the level of individuals and society, its values, the importance of promoting it, the manifestations of strengthening it in the family and the school, and the challenges facing educational institutions in applying it, as well as ways to overcome them.
The second paper was titled ‘The Role of Social Media in Promoting the Values of Positive Citizenship’, which addressed the concept of social media, models of which are used in our society, their importance in promoting the values of positive citizenship, and the topics and issues they address and affect positive citizenship.
The training seminar aims to educate parents about the necessity of promoting the values of citizenship, not spreading rumors, maintaining public order and respecting laws, and instilling a positive outlook towards the achievements gained.
