Fak Kurbah secures release of 925 prisoners
Fak Kurbah - an initiative by the Omani Lawyers Association (OLA) to assist people who are either imprisoned or are on the verge of getting imprisoned for financial issues - facilitated the release of yet another batch of prisoners from various governorates in Oman.
The OLA announced the tenth edition of the initiative, which closed on Monday night, marked a significant milestone on getting 925 prisoners released from jail.
“Once again, this edition of the initiative showcased the solidarity and generosity of Omani society,” said Dr Mohammed bin Ibrahim al Zadjali, chairman of OLA and supervisor of Fak Kurbah, adding that over the course of ten editions, “we have released a total of 5,894 prisoners who were either imprisoned or on the verge of imprisonment due to financial claims”.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to individuals and institutions whose efforts contributed to the success of this initiative.”
Muscat governorate witnessed the highest number of those released, with 194 individuals regaining their freedom. It was followed by 191 cases in North Batinah, 122 in South Batinah, 97 in Dhahirah, 87 in Buraimi, 79 in Dakhiliyah, 59 in North Sharqiyah, 40 in South Sharqiyah, 33 in Dhofar, 20 in Wusta, and three in Musandam.
“Empowering the community within Omani society has been a primary objective of our initiative,” emphasised Zadjali. “We deeply value the constructive cooperation and collaboration from government and private institutions, journalists, and social media influencers who have played a significant role in spreading our humanitarian message.”
The success of the Fak Kurbah initiative highlights the collective efforts of Omani society in promoting compassion and justice, the group stated.
