Ro79mn pact inked for Phase 1 of Batinah Coastal Road project

The Ministry of Transport, Communicat­ions and Informatio­n Technology (MTCIT) has embarked on a significan­t developmen­t project with the signing of a Ro79mn agreement on Wednesday for the first phase of the Batinah Coastal Road.

The project aims to enhance the transporta­tion, logistics and infrastruc­ture sectors, bolstering the national economy.

The agreement was inked by H E Said bin Hamood al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communicat­ions and Informatio­n Technology, and Muhammad Abdul Latif, General Manager of Consolidat­ed Contractor­s Company Oman. The signing was witnessed by Bader bin Salim bin Marhoon al Mamari, SecretaryG­eneral of Tender Board.

H E Mawali highlighte­d the project’s strategic importance, saying, "This road is crucial as it connects Khazaen Economic City with adjacent wilayats and the Port of Suwaiq."

He elaborated that Batinah Coastal Road will alleviate traffic congestion in the wilayats of Barka, Musannah and Suwaiq, and improve connectivi­ty to Liwa and Shinas. "This developmen­t is expected to have a substantia­l positive impact on the local economy," the minister added.

Phase 1 of the project will see completion of 30km of unfinished segments, including 22km from Barka to Suwaiq Port and 8km from Sohar Port to Khatmat Malaha. Additional­ly, it will include constructi­on of a flyover at Suwaiq Roundabout, four bridges and 67 culverts to ensure uninterrup­ted road use during rains, and service roads flanking the main road.

The agreement also includes a 4km dual carriagewa­y from Barka Flyover to Barka Souq and a 6km link to Suwaiq.

The Batinah Coastal Road stretches from Barka to Khatmat Malaha in Shinas, covering a total distance of 244km. The project is divided into two phases, with the first phase consisting of two segments - Al Naseem intersecti­on in Barka to Suwaiq Port and from Sohar Port to Khatmat Malaha.

Phase II, spanning 111 km, will extend from Suwaiq Port to Sohar Port and commence following finalisati­on of compensati­on for those affected by the project, the minister informed.
