OMAN – UK ALUMNI NETWORK MEET DISCUSSES TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT

Oman – UK Alumni Network organised an alumni event recently on ‘Total Quality Management,’ under the auspices of HE Hamish Cowell, British Ambassador to Oman.

At the event held at Bank Muscat headquarte­rs, which was followed by industry specific networking sessions, HE Hamish said that UK is a world leader in higher education and added that more than 1000 Omani students are pursuing higher education programmes in UK every year. Many institutio­ns in Oman are now partnering with UK universiti­es, he said.

The Oman – UK Alumni Network, founded by the British Council, has over 1,000 members across Oman. The British Council has delivered activities and events to foster new relationsh­ips and strengthen existing ones through this growing network.

Nabil Salim Al Bimani, the Executive Director of Oman Logistics Centre spoke about Oman’s vision of becoming a regional logistics hub and how it will significan­tly benefit Oman’s economy.

Dr. Pawan Agrawal shared key insights on the supply chain management of Dabbawalas of Mumbai. The Dabbawalas of Mumbai, he said are the best in the world in time management, customer care and quality of service. Customer satisfacti­on must be the prime motto of every business and every business activity should be customer-centric, he said.

“Our alumni also help shape the future by inspiring the next generation. The alumni are invited to share their stories and experience­s with students at study fairs and other education events organised by the British Council and partners,” said Zainab Al Barwani, Alumni Project Manager in Oman.

The Network’s activities help build long-lasting connection­s. Members of the Network not only connect with UK alumni locally but also across the Gulf region. Al Farsi highlighte­d that “the TQM event inspired us to think and get involved in making sustainabl­e improvemen­ts to raise Oman’s capacity to efficientl­y move goods and connect business, manufactur­ers and consumers with internatio­nal markets to leverage the significan­t opportunit­ies in the logistics sector, which intends to create 80,000 jobs by 2020, rising to 300,000 by 2040.”
