GEARING UP FOR CHALLENGES
Over the years, Al Tasnim Group has seen its growth accelerate and its market presence grow in the Sultanate’s Oil & Gas industry. The division works with prestigious national and independent energy companies in Oman to design, develop and construct oil and gas infrastructure by executing engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and pre and post commissioning services. The past few years have propelled the Group and it has been responsible for all off - plot works in South of Oman.

With an extensive track record, the Group’s Oil & Gas Division has proved its expertise in multi-disciplinary EPC services and has developed its stature to become a specialist service provider in the energy sector. On an average, the division executes supply and installation of over 500 km of flow lines and 100 km of pipelines/headers (CS/GRE/DSS) of various sizes ranging up to 24″ ø (over 300 different well completions done till date).
Its range of services also includes installation of HDPE Pipe Lining and Rotolining of Spools for on-plot applications with integrity maintenance, station works, MSV’s manifolds, fast tracked civil and infrastructure development, mechanical, electrical, control and automation engineering services. The division has an impressive clientele such as Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC),
Oman Gas Company (OGC) to name a few. Al Tasnim Group constantly looks to excel and adopt several techniques to exceed client value through innovation and optimisation programs. PDO renewed its Contract Optimisation Review (COR) programme in the light of weakening oil prices and the need to increase efficiency and competitiveness.
The South Oman Off-plot Delivery Contract (ODC) was one of those selected for review. Al Tasnim made several proposals on procurement optimisation, surplus material use, design standardisation and the live tie-in of overhead lines without shutdown, generating significant cost savings. During an official recognition ceremony, PDO praised the Group for its proactive approach and absolute commitment, saying, “This is a true partnership where the contractor comes forward and says we can save value, and we listen and facilitate them to do that. Saving approximately about $100 million is a tremendous achievement and has massively contributed to PDO’s corporate cost savings package and the journey continues. If we work together in that spirit we can create more value in the long run.” On the technology front, the latest addition to the suite of services provided by the division is the introduction of “Automatic Welding,” thus enabling fast tracking of construction projects.
The Group’s future plan includes various measures of internal improvements and new projects. Mohit Khimji – CEO Group Divisions explains, “We are running a project titled ‘Project 10 10’, where we are aiming to grow 10-fold compared to what it is today in 10 years. We want to achieve this growth in all aspects of enterprise such as employee satisfaction, operating structures, turnover, client satisfaction and basically, each and every element that contributes to making Al Tasnim a success.”
Al Tasnim has a massive footprint in Oman, but the Group is not content to merely rest on these laurels. It has ambitious plans to develop its business in other Middle East markets as well. With newly established offices in Qatar and the UAE, the Group is making major strides towards its ambitious expansion plans. “Our focus is to consolidate current position and continue the stimulating, impressive work in the Sultanate while making steady progress in cementing our brand outside Oman too,” asserted Raghavan Ranganathan, Director - Oil & Gas Services.
The Group has been keen on amplifying its In Country Value (ICV) proposition and concerted efforts are constantly being made. With its vast resource base in Oman, it is specifically focused on implementing new projects to boost the Oil & Gas Division. In this backdrop, a state of the art manufacturing facility spread over 5,300 sqm in Misfah, is presently in the process of being set up to provide solutions to Oil & Gas operators. A multitude of items required typically for the aforementioned sector will be manufactured in this facility. In addition, the division has recently set up an upstream operations team that will be responsible for onshore and offshore exploration activities and support services.
“With the intent to retain the spend in the country - ICV, develop capabilities with skills, we have conceptualised a plan to foray into manufacturing of various products in Oman, the whole gamut of materials from carbon steel to exhaustive corrosion resistant alloys will be handled in the facility. The Group also has futuristic plans to expand its operations catering to local and GCC needs of upstream as well as downstream sectors,” Sandeep Vasant Kulkarni, General Manager - Oil and Gas Services, said.
As the world embarks on reducing dependence on fossil fuels and contributing to a greener environment, the Al Tasnim Group has taken steps to develop its capabilities in the renewable and other non-conventional energy programmes. “Energy sustainability is key to any country’s growth. As an organisation, we recognise this and are taking the right steps in supporting the Sultanate’s energy master plan 2040,” Khimji added.
