Honouring the global energy industry’s most successful organisations, robust projects and innovations, the renowned Petroleum Economist has revealed the winners of its 2019 Petroleum Economist Awards, which highlights additionally influential individuals for their industry contributions. Two of the Sultanate’s oil and gas industry leadership, namely HE Dr. Mohammed Al Rumhy and Harib Al Kitani, were selected in this renowned international recognition.
HE Rumhy, Minister of Oil and Gas, was awarded with “the Minister of the Year” award, for his immense contributions and input which has spurred the rapid development of Oman’s Oil and Gas sector and beyond. The distinction additionally acknowledges the role which the Sultanate, represented by Ministry of Oil and Gas, has contributed to supply the global energy market with vital and uninterrupted energy resources. The recognition further demonstrates Al Rumhy’s unrelenting efforts in strengthening the friendly relations between Oman and many countries across the globe. “Energy Executive of the Year,” award has been bestowed on Harib Al Kitani, Oman LNG’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Throughout his career, Al Kitani has developed all the leadership qualities necessary to lead the Omani natural gas evolution. His work and pedigree in the LNG sector have been a pivotal driving force behind the successful integration between
Oman LNG and Qalhat LNG. Since then, Oman LNG has witnessed many successful milestones across all fronts; such as reaching highest production rate, unmatched safety records, and secondto-none social investment programme.
In its selection of Al Kitani, the panel considered his 40-year career in the oil and gas sector with particular focus on the gas sector from varying positions in top energy companies including Shell and Qalhat LNG.
According to the International Gas
Union (IGU), Oman supplies a critical three per cent (3%) of liquefied natural gas to meet rising demand in international LNG trade and its volumes are pivotal in keeping the global balance of supply and demand. Export of Oman’s first cargo was in 2000 and since then proceeds from the blossoming trade have supported what some observers have described as an ambitious diversification programme that has spurred growth in other important sectors of the economy including tourism, agriculture and the spread of vital infrastructure that support business and daily life.
