Salalah’s Equestrian Week begins today
An endurance competition for natives of Dhofar has also been planned
July 23: The Equestrian Week, in collaboration with Dhofar Municipality, will be held from July 24 to 31 as part of the Salalah festival activities.
This year, the event will have a Gulf championship for tent-pegging. To be held in the equestrian area in front of Municipal Entertainment Centre at Atin, it will see participation from UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Besides, the Government Mounted Units such as the Royal Mounted Police, Royal Footnote Mounted Police, Mounted Police Unit and the Sultan of Oman Armour Mounted Police will take part.
The event will see an endurance competition for Dhofar natives at Al Dahaleez Creek Beach on July 31. It will be for a distance of 80 km.
The competition is being organised in collaboration with Oman Equestrian Federation, Ministry of Sports Affairs, Minister of State Office, Dhofar Governorate, Dhofar Municipality, Government Mounted Units and Dhofar Committee of Mounted.
Many private sector institutions, including Raysut Company for Cement, Methanool Company, Bank Muscat, Bank Dhofar, Dhofar International Holding Company for Development & Investment, Salalah Mills Company and Sama are backing the championship.
Ahmed al Abri, chief of the competition committee, said: “The competition will run for two days, after which participants will be rested and souvenirs will be presented. After that, other competitions will continue.”
