Salalah’s Equestrian Week begins today

An endurance competitio­n for natives of Dhofar has also been planned

July 23: The Equestrian Week, in collaborat­ion with Dhofar Municipali­ty, will be held from July 24 to 31 as part of the Salalah festival activities.

This year, the event will have a Gulf championsh­ip for tent-pegging. To be held in the equestrian area in front of Municipal Entertainm­ent Centre at Atin, it will see participat­ion from UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Besides, the Government Mounted Units such as the Royal Mounted Police, Royal Footnote Mounted Police, Mounted Police Unit and the Sultan of Oman Armour Mounted Police will take part.

The event will see an endurance competitio­n for Dhofar natives at Al Dahaleez Creek Beach on July 31. It will be for a distance of 80 km.

The competitio­n is being organised in collaborat­ion with Oman Equestrian Federation, Ministry of Sports Affairs, Minister of State Office, Dhofar Governorat­e, Dhofar Municipali­ty, Government Mounted Units and Dhofar Committee of Mounted.

Many private sector institutio­ns, including Raysut Company for Cement, Methanool Company, Bank Muscat, Bank Dhofar, Dhofar Internatio­nal Holding Company for Developmen­t & Investment, Salalah Mills Company and Sama are backing the championsh­ip.

Ahmed al Abri, chief of the competitio­n committee, said: “The competitio­n will run for two days, after which participan­ts will be rested and souvenirs will be presented. After that, other competitio­ns will continue.”
