Kids learn about plants, human body at SQU
July 23: The Biology Group of the College of Sciences recently organised ‘The Little Biologist’ activity for children as part of its summer programme at Sultan Qaboos University.
The third edition of the programme comprised activities for children aged six to 10 years and an educational workshop in the biology laboratory, where they were told how different organisms live in the same environment.
The children learnt about different types of plants and how to differentiate between desert and tropical plants. They also learned about the human body and its organs. They used microscopes and laboratory instruments to see and discover.
The workshop was aimed at giving the children information about environment, investing youth energy on volunteering, cooperating with charities and civil institutions, and making children learn new things. The group held entertainment competitions for children and screened a movie for them. A total of 81 children participated the programme as against 74 in the previous edition. The number of volunteers was 30.
