Balloon use in communication services successfully completed

MUSCAT: An attempt using balloon in providing mobile communication services has been successfully completed. The attempt is part of cooperation between Omantel and Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).

The outcome of the experience will enhance research that aims at finding alternatives and solutions to provide coverage in emergencies and at areas that are characterised by their topographic complexity. for

Omantel and SQU have formed a joint team of specialists to study various aspects of the project.

The team implemented and tested the use of a balloon for providing 3G and 4G technology for wider coverage, as well as high quality communication services.

The initiative comes as part of Omantel’s efforts to provide alternatives and ensure high quality service.
