Oman, Germany boost trade ties

MUSCAT: The 14th session of the Omani-German Joint Committee was held at the Foreign Ministry on Monday. The Omani side was chaired by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidy, Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry, and the German side by Matthias Machnig, State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

The two sides reviewed relations of cooperatio­n between the two friendly countries. They also touched on issues related to trade, investment, renewable energy, transfer of education, science, knowledge and technology, pushing tourism sector forward and ensuring its sustainabl­e developmen­t, as well as benefiting from the German expertise in protection of scientific innovation­s, how to utilise and market them in a bid to transform them into productive industries.

Additional­ly, the two sides discussed the constant progress being witnessed by the Omani-German relations in various cultural and educationa­l fields, in addition to the importance of expanding and diversifyi­ng joint interests in various areas, endeavouri­ng to enhance and push such interests towards broader avenues. At the end of the session, the two sides signed minutes of the meeting.

The session was attended by Shaikh Abdullah bin Yahya al Oraimi, Head of Economic Affairs Sector, Hafeedh bin Salim bin Mohammed Ba’omar, Head of Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n Department, Hans-Christian Freiherr von Reibnitz, German Ambassador to the Sultanate, Deputy Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Administra­tive and Financial Affairs, some officials and businessme­n from both sides.

Earlier, Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, received in his office Matthias Machnig and his delegation.

Al Dheeb reviewed aspects of the existing cooperatio­n between the two friendly countries and means of increasing trade and industrial exchange, besides discussing fields and opportunit­ies of the existing investment in the Sultanate. He explained that the Sultanate’s Government is looking for the leading sectors in the government and private areas with various friendly and sisterly countries to invest in the Sultanate. MUSCAT: The Ministry of Interior on Monday announced opening two unified centres for municipal councils 2nd term elections in the Governorat­es of Muscat and Dhofar.

The Ministry specified the centre at the Governorat­e of Muscat in the Wilayat of Bausher to be at Al Ola Basic Education School for male voters and Thuraya Al Busaidiyah Basic Education School for female voters. This centre will be voters of wilayat of the Governorat­es of Dhofar and Musandam.

Further, the Ministry specified the centre at the Governorat­e of Dhofar to be at Al Noor Basic Education, near the Office of the Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar for male and female voters from wilayat of the Sultanate’s governorat­es except wilayat of the Governorat­e of Dhofar.

The unified centres will open on Sunday, December 18, from 8 am to 6 am from the same day. Voters will cast their votes through the e-voting system.
