International meet on Oman’s ties with Horn of Africa begins
MORONI: President Ghazali Othman of the Union of the Comoros opened the 5th International Conference on Oman’s relations with countries of the Horn of Africa, in the Comoros’s capital Moroni on Tuesday in the presence of Dr Hamad bin Mohammed al Dhoyani, Chairman of the National Record and Archive Authority (NRAA), several officials from Oman and Comoros, researchers and those interested in culture and media.
Researchers from 11 countries, including America, Belgium, Russia, Britain, Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania and Yemen, as well as the Sultanate are participating in the conference.
The conference, comes in response to the Royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, is organised by the National Document and Archive Authority (NDAA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of the Comoros.
President Ghazali Othman of the Union of the Comoros in his speech said the conference is a historic turning point that leads us to imagine this beautiful history between people of the Sultanate and the Union of the Comoros in a bid to enhance the relations between the two friendly peoples.
On behalf of the government and people of the Comoros, he expressed his utmost thanks and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos for his Royal Orders to convene this important conference in the Union of the Comoros.
He also commended the OmaniComoros relations, looking forward to enhance and promote them in various spheres.
He also commended efforts of His Majesty the Sultan at the international level to maintain security, disseminate peace and solve conflicts through peaceful means.
Dr Hamad bin Mohammed al Dhoyani, NRAA Chairman, in his speech highlighted the Sultanate’s relations with the countries of the Horn of Africa through ages.
President Ghazali opened the associating exhibition, which includes 200 documents that embody the Sultanate’s relations with these countries, as well as some photos and documents related to the Sultanate’s connection with the Union of the Comoros.
The conference reviews march of history and culture of Oman and these countries in the historical, economic, social and cultural aspects, in addition to highlighting the historical roots and references of that development.
Through 46 working papers, the conference tackles part of the cultural aspects of the Sultanate and its humanitarian role and contribution to human civilisation in these areas.
The International Conference will be broadcast in four languages (Arabic, French, English and the Comorian language), as part of the keenness of the organisers to highlight the importance of the conference and the civilised role of Oman in the countries of the Horn of Africa.
