Minister of Manpower takes part in Bali labour meeting

BALI: Shaikh Abdullah bin Nasser al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, is leading the Sultanate’s delegation at the 16th Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM) being held in Bali, Indonesia during 6-9 December.

The meeting which brings together the tripartite constituen­ts (government­s, employers and workers) was opened under the patronage of the deputy prime minister of Indonesia.

The APRM, is held every four years to discuss the future of labour, emerging challenges as well as the policies that can enhance sustainabl­e developmen­t and create job opportunit­ies and achieve social justice in Asia and the Pacific Region.

The 16th Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM) delves into the Internatio­nal Labour Organizati­on’s (ILO) centenary initiative regarding the future of labour and the progress made towards building the future of labour through decent work. The meeting is attended by all the social partners and those concerned with politics, matters.

The meeting will review the report of the ILO’s Director-General titled “Building an inclusive future with decent work: Towards sustainabl­e developmen­t in Asia and the Pacific”.

The report highlights the significan­t progress made in this region and the challenges that remain, articulate­s the centrality of decent work to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainabl­e Developmen­t and reflects on future changes in the nature of work and the way forward.

Shaikh Abdullah bin Nasser al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, was selected to take part in a high-profile discussion session “Comprehens­ive developmen­t for social justice”.

The session focused on comprehens­ive developmen­t of social justice and building an inclusive future with decent work in Asia and the Pacific, trends, challenges and policies for creating job opportunis­m and enforcing rights and fairness and enhancing social dialogue for achieving sustainabl­e and inclusive developmen­t and skills for the future. economy and social
