-

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), represented by the Directorate General for Standards and Metrology prepared a draft regulation for the registration of agencies in charge of verifying liquid fuel stations. This comes in implementation of the Law of Measurement and Calibration issued by the Royal Decree No 17/2013, which authorises the Directorate to control and verify all devices under the legal control.

Sami bin Salim al Sahib, acting Director General of the Directorate General for Standards and Metrology, said that the regulation authorizes the agencies or relevant companies to do the calibration and verify the liquid fuel stations. This is done as per Article ‘6’ of chapter to of the Law of Measurement and Calibration issued by the Royal Decree.

This aims to ensure that the quantity sold to consumers is accurate as per the terms of this regulation. The regulation applies to all fixed liquid fuel pumps at the petrol stations excluding the petrol stations for special military or education purposes.

He added that the regulation is in line with the government trend towards enhancing cooperation with the private sector by involving it in the activities related to standards and specifications. The Directorate will develop mechanisms and controls related to awarding such works and direct supervisions for these processes. Tough penalties will be imposed on those who misuse or do not comply with the approved standards and controls. — ONA
