Work on drug rehab centre in Sohar begins

SOHAR: The groundbrea­king ceremony for the Drug Rehabilita­tion Centre in the Wilayat of Sohar in the Governorat­e of North Al Batinah at a cost of RO 1.611 million was held in Sohar on Monday under the auspices of Shaikh Muhanna bin Saif al Lamki, Governor of North Al Batinah, Chairman of Jusoor in the presence of Dr Darwish bin Saif al Muharbi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health for Administra­tive and Financial Affairs and local officials.

The implementa­tion of the project, funded by Sohar Aluminium, Orpic and Vale Oman, in cooperatio­n with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Social Developmen­t and Sohar Municipali­ty, will be supervised by Jusoor Foundation.

The project, which is part of the corporate social responsibi­lity (CSR) initiative­s by these companies, includes two units for drug addiction treatment, one unit for psychiatri­c and social treatment, a clinic and administra­tive offices.

The constructi­on of the project, which will be initiated this month, is expected to take 16 months after which the building will be delivered to the Ministry of Health to run and operate it.

The project, the first of its kind in the Sultanate, stretches over 40,000 square metres.

It will provide treatment and rehabilita­tion services for drug dependents. It will also raise public awareness against risks of addiction on individual­s and the society.
