Public sector employees undergo media training

TACKLING MEDIA CHALLENGES: Fourth stage of training programme on communicat­ion skills with media gets under way

MUSCAT: The two-day “Media Department­s at Public Organizati­ons: Challenges and Aspiration­s” organized by the Ministry of Informatio­n on Wednesday began at Grand Hormuz Hotel under the auspices of Sheikh Khalid bin Omar al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service.

Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour al Hasani, Minister of Informatio­n, in his address said that the fourth stage of the training programme on communicat­ion skills with media means builds upon the three previous stages.

“The training programme aims at enhancing the skills and performanc­e of employees at the public relations and media department­s at the various public organisati­ons,” he added.

“The programme targets trainees at the media and public relations department at the various ministries in a bid to have a qualified cadre that the public organisati­on can rely on in dealing with media means and public opinion in a profession­al manner”, he mentioned.

He also pointed out that the fourth stage includes a number of working papers that cover the major challenges facing public organisati­ons and the aspiration­s.

During the opening ceremony, Dr Ubaid bin Said al Shaqsi, from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) gave a presentati­on on the study conducted by the Ministry of Informatio­n in collaborat­ion with SQU under the title “Future Knowledge Needs of the Omani Public from the Awareness Programme”.

The first day included three sessions. The first session on “Institutio­nal Communicat­ions at the Public Organizati­ons” included three working papers on media work policies in the Sultanate by Ali bin Khalfan al Jabri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Informatio­n.

The second working paper on the media department­s and their relations with other department­s at the organisati­on was presented by Khalid al Aamri.

The third working paper on the digital media and effect-making was presented by Abdul Aziz bin Said Muqbali.

The second session on “The Organizati­onal Charts and the Actual Reality of the Media Department­s” included two working papers.

The first working paper on the organisati­onal charts for the media department­s at the civil service organizati­ons was presented by Sayyid Salim bin Musalam al Busaidi, UnderSecre­tary of the Ministry of Civil Service for Administra­tive Developmen­t Affairs.

The second working paper on the reality of the media department­s at the public organisati­ons was presented by Najat al Mahthoriya­h.

The third session on “Managing Crisis by Media” included one working paper by Dr Ubaid bin Said al Shaqsi on the experience­s on media management of crisis.
