Panel moots proposal to develop policies for health improvemen­t

MUSCAT: The State Council Social Committee on Wednesday held its third meeting of the second annual sitting for the sixth term under the chairmansh­ip of Dr Hamad bin Suleiman al Salmi, Head of the Committee.

During its meeting, the Committee hosted Najeeb bin Ali al Rowas, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Environmen­t and Climate Affairs to complete the Committee’s study on a proposal to develop policies for health enhancemen­t.

The hosting aimed at enriching the study with proposals and views and highlighti­ng the efforts made by the ministry to protect the environmen­t, especially in areas related to human health.

The Committee discussed a number of themes including how far the environmen­t laws in the Sultanate keep pace with internatio­nal developmen­ts related to protecting environmen­t, the status of environmen­t in the Sultanate, the future plans to improve environmen­tal performanc­e levels related to man’s health, evaluating the activities that affect environmen­t safety and the health enhancemen­t policies.

The Committee also discussed the studies, field surveys and scientific researches on the changes in environmen­tal and climate effects.

Meanwhile, Majlis Ash’shura Economic and Financial Committee held its fifth regular meeting of the second annual sitting for the 8th term under the chair of Saleh bin Said Musan, Head of the Committee.

The Committee hosted a number of experts at the Supreme Council for Planning, the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Legal Affairs to get their views on the agreement related to encouragin­g mutual protection of investment between the Sultanate’s government and the government of the Republic of Mauritius.

The members discussed the articles of the draft agreement including those related to protecting investors and providing them with equal treatment in both countries.

On the other hand, the Committee discussed the economic effects of the free zones in the Sultanate and approved visits to Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZD) and Salalah Free Zone next month. — ONA
