Arab Parliament hails HM on human rights award

MUSCAT: Musallam bin Ali al Maashani, Member at the State Council, Deputy Chairman of the Arab Parliament, has said that honouring His Majesty Sultan Qaboos with Arab Man Internatio­nal Award 2016 by ArabEurope­an Centre of Human Rights and Internatio­nal Law (AECHRIL) is a historic moment as it recognises the role played by His Majesty the Sultan in promoting dialogue and understati­ng in solving issues of the region and the world.

It is also a recognitio­n of His Majesty the Sultan’s keenness to build strong relations with various countries of the world based on exchanging interests and enhancing tolerance, understand­ing and dialogue principles.

He added in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that award by the AECHRIL comes as recognitio­n of His Majesty the Sultan’s leading role in promoting peace in the world.

He affirmed that the Arab Parliament will adopt His Majesty the Sultan’s approach, which depends on using dialogue as a means for solving the pending issues.

This approach will create the conducive environmen­t that helps in solving the Arab issues amidst the exceptiona­l circumstan­ces facing the Arab world.

Al Maashani pointed out that electing the Sultanate as Deputy Chairman of the Arab Parliament at the second legislativ­e sitting at the extraordin­ary session held on December 10 in Cairo stresses the status of the Sultanate in the Arab world.

It also renews the trust of the member states in the Omani parliament­ary institutio­ns and the role they play in enhancing the joint Arab work.

He affirmed that electing the Sultanate will provide an incentive to ensure more contributi­on in providing Arab parliament­ary work with positive visions that enhance its work. — ONA
