Meet promotes cultural awareness among youth

SALALAH: The Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainm­ent (SQYCCE) in the Wilayat of Salalah in the Governorat­e of Dhofar on Wednesday organised an introducto­ry meeting on its activities and programmes for 2017 in the presence of media means and officials concerned with areas of youth, sports and culture in Dhofar.

Habib bin Mohammed al Riyami, Secretary-General of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science (SQHCCS) in his speech highlighte­d the Complex’s message that seeks to promote the level of cultural awareness among the youth, develop their skills and capacities, as well as investing their energies through various cultural, art, recreation­al and sport programmes.

The complex, which was establishe­d as per the Royal Orders of His Majesty the Sultan, includes 28 cultural, sports and entertainm­ent facilities on a total area of 237,368 square metres to contribute to raising the cultural and intellectu­al level of the Omani man through its various quality activities, programmes and events.

The complex consists of a centre for cultural and artistic activities, a centre for physical and recreation­al activities and several facilities, including a public library, art and cultural exhibition halls, computer laboratori­es and a lecture hall that can accommodat­e 130 people, training and activities halls, multi-purpose hall that can accommodat­e 1,500 people, swimming pools, gyms and in-door sport halls, out-door playground­s for various individual and team sports.

The designers of the complex, which is located in Salalah, affiliated to SQHCCS at the Diwan of Royal Court, have taken into account needs of the persons with disabiliti­es. — ONA
