Plan for developing of eco-tourism in nature reserves

MUSCAT: Najeeb bin Ali al Rowas, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Environmen­t and Climate Affairs, has chaired at the ministry’s premises, the first meeting of the joint committee between the Ministry of Environmen­t and Climate Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism, which was formed by the decision of the Minister of Environmen­t and Climate Affairs in order to prepare strategies and plans related to the developmen­t of eco-tourism in nature reserves.

The decision aims to develop standards of protection and conservati­on of biological, heritage, natural resources, tourism diversity and exploitati­on in sustainabl­e ways, and to develop rules and standards, especially by involving the local community in the developmen­t of nature reserves and the preservati­on of its resources, in addition to preparing guides to the characteri­stics of eco-tourism, specificat­ions, rules of design, constructi­on and sustainabl­e management.

The committee comes as a fruit of continuous cooperatio­n between the Ministry of Environmen­t and Climate Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism, out of the great importance attached by the Sultanate to maintain the diversity of natural and cultural heritage, through the establishm­ent, management and developmen­t of nature reserves, to serve the achievemen­t of their environmen­tal objectives and sustainabi­lity for future generation­s. — ONA
