Boskalis tipped to win $510m Duqm Port bulk liquid terminal contract

LEADING global dredging and maritime infrastruc­ture services provider Royal Boskalis Westminste­r NV has announced that it has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the award of a contract covering the constructi­on of a bulk liquid terminal at the Port of Duqm.

The Netherland­s-based firm said the contract, valued at approximat­ely 480 million euros ($510 million), will be awarded by the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (SEZAD) and is subject to Boskali satisfying certain conditions laid by the Authority.

The contract includes the engineerin­g, design, procuremen­t and constructi­on of a bulk liquid berth terminal at Duqm Port, which anchors a major economic zone in Wusta Governorat­e.

“Various dredging & civil activities will be executed under the responsibi­lity of Boskalis, including the deepening of the port basin to a depth of 18 metres, reclamatio­n of new land, the constructi­on of a quay wall with a length of one kilometre, a double berth jetty island and stone revetment,” said Boskalis in a press statement. “The dredging scope will be executed by the new mega cutter Helios, which will be taken into service mid-2017, and a jumbo hopper and medium-sized trailer suction hopper dredger,” it stated.

Based on the current expectatio­ns, the design activities are due to commence in the coming weeks and equipment will be mobilised mid2017. The project is expected to be completed in 2020, the company added.
