MUSCAT: The Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific has elected Sheikh Ayman bin Ahmed al Hosni (pictured), CEO of Oman Airports Management Company ( OAMC) and member of the board of ACI Asia-Pacific, to represent the council at ACI worldwide.

Sheikh Ayman was elected due to his valuable contributions and significant achievements in developing the company’s administrative, operational and financial performance. He has also played a positive role in improving the performance of airports and operating companies in the Asia-Pacific area during his board membership period in 2015.

The decision reflects the growing importance of Omani airports regionally and internationally; primarily due to their successful management under OAMC, which directly supervises Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport, in addition to the regional airports. OAMC has been successful in improving the performance and raising the capacity of each airport, in addition to strengthening relations with international airlines to operate direct flight to Oman. In 2016, a number of airlines launched their first direct flights to Oman airports, connecting them directly with major airports globally.

In March 2016, ACI elected Al Hosni to be one of the representative members of the Asia-Pacific region, which helped open a new phase of regional partnerships with major airports in the region. Given Al Hosni’s vast levels of experience in the field, the board selected him for the ACI membership representing ACI Asia-Pacific.

Commenting on ACI AsiaPacific’s decision, Al Hosni noted, “I am proud to be elected as the representative of more than 210 airports in the AsiaPacific region at ACI global, the umbrella that governs all international airports worldwide. This decision will highlight Oman on the international stage, and is a representation of the importance given to Oman’s airports; which is no doubt a clear indication of the dedication of all OAMC employees at all levels, as well as our cooperation with strategic partners, with whom we work closely to serve and develop Oman’s airports. This selection will increase our responsibility and presents us with the challenge of preserving our global status and moving to higher levels. I am confident that the team at OAMC is more than up for the task, as is indicative from the new strategy of the company, which aims to place Oman’s Airports among the top 20 airports in the world by 2020.”
