MUSCAT FESTIVAL kicks off

- KABEER YOUSUF MUSCAT, JAN. 19

This year’s edition of the annual family festival of culture, tradition and fun and frolic had a colourful start when the gates of the two major parks, Amerat and Naseem were opened to the public by the Muscat Municipality officials yesterday evening.

The two parks, which were partly closed in preparation for the festival, are all decked up with lights and colourful festoons and other entertainment attractions and avenues.

“We visit the festival every year without fail and this year’s celebration has got even better,” Talib and his family averred.

Of the various attractions, the massive rides and other family entertainment areas are a sure shot to offer a lavish treat to the visitors. While the cultural and heritage village has donned the garbs of Oman’s prehistoric era vying to give a glimpse of how life was then, the international village promises a kaleidoscopic view of some 25 countries of the world.

“What’s more attractive is the food court which has literally all Omani foods,” Salem al Diyabi and Hana al Hadi commented. Besides, the daily fireworks which begin at 8.30 pm illuminating the sky is wowing the gathering.

These festival venues will remain open from 4 pm to 11 pm on weekdays and from 4 pm till midnight during weekends till February 13.
