FORUM REVIEWS STRATEGY TO DEVELOP TRANSPORT SYSTEM

MUSCAT: The 1st Oman Transport and Logistic Services Forum organised by Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, represente­d by the Transport and Logistic Sector Committee, began on Wednesday today at the premises of the Public Authority for Civil Aviation under the auspices of Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communicat­ions.

Salim bin Sulayem al Junaibi, Head of the Transport and Logistic Service Committee at OCCI, in his address said that the Forum aims at briefing the stakeholde­rs on the achievemen­ts made in this sector, the future plans, means of creating an integrated transport system and providing the conducive milieu that attract major internatio­nal companies and investors.

The forum included a presentati­on on the current and future major projects and the strategic plans for the transport and logistic service sectors at the different governorat­es, such as road, ports, airports and telecommun­ication networks.

A number of working papers were presented on the public transport strategy, the upcoming projects, the airport networks, the vision of Muscat Internatio­nal Airport, ‘Mwasalat’, the new taxis, ‘Bayan’ custom system, e-commerce, the role of the private sector and the logistic area ‘Khazaen’ in the Wilayat of Barka.

A number of senior officials and profession­als in the field attended the forum.
