Majlis to vote on panel report on fuel prices

MUSCAT: Majlis Ash’shura referred the Media and Culture Committee report on the draft Cultural Heritage Law to the State Council after being approved by the Majlis.

During its 8th ordinary session of the second annual sitting held under the chairmansh­ip of Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Majlis Ash’shura Chairman, it discussed a report prepared by the joint committee of the State Council and Majlis Ash’shura on the points of disagreeme­nt between the two councils regarding the draft Veterinary Products Law, referred by the Council of Ministers.

Majlis Ash’shura has approved all articles of disagreeme­nt excluding Article 35 which provides for double punishment of jail and fine after a majority of 53 members voted in favour of maintainin­g the council’s previous decision regarding the aforementi­oned article. The report was read out by Hilal bin Said al Yahai, Head of Food and Water Security Committee.

Out of the total 25 articles of disagreeme­nt, only five articles were discussed by Majlis Ash’shura during its Wednesday’s session.

The council decided to put off discussion on Article 35 for Thursday’s session.

The council also discussed the report prepared by the ad-hoc committee for redressing the social impact of economic crisis with regard to revising fuel prices.

The report was read by Hilal bin Hamad al Sarmi, who noted that the committee, through its study, sought to identify the impact of fuel prices on various society segments and find a mechanism for supporting social security families and lowincome people who have affected by the revised fuel prices.
