National Survey Authority bags Excellence Award

MUSCAT: The National Survey Authority, Ministry of Defence, has again bagged the ‘Geospatial World Excellence Award 2016’ for its National Strategic Project ‘Establishm­ent and & Implementa­tion of Oman National Geoid Model’ OMANGEOID.

The award was presented recently during the closing ceremony of Geospatial World Forum 2017 at Hyderabad Internatio­nal Convention Center, India. The prize is awarded to anyone who provides innovative and creative in the areas of Geospatial Technology. The Head of National Survey Authority, Ameed Rukn Jawwi Ahmed bin Saif al badi and Director, Geospatial Informatio­n, Saleem bin Abdullah al Hashmi were present to receive the award.

Geospatial World Excellence Award is an internatio­nally-acclaimed private award recognizin­g exemplary innovation­s and practices in the global Geospatial industry.

Conferred under the auspices of Geospatial World Forum every year, the National Survey Authority has been selected for this award for the successful­ly establishi­ng & Implementa­tion of Oman National Geoid Model (OmanGeoid). The accuracy of global positionin­g System height measuremen­ts depend on several factors but most crucial one is the ‘imperfecti­on’ of the earth’s surface.

At present Global Positionin­g System heights ellipsoida­l heights. A height modernisat­ion effort was thus required by developing a gravity network that enables all organisati­ons within the Sultanate of Oman to determine accurate orthometri­c heights.

This project provides The National Survey Authority with the capability to establish a modern height system in Oman.
