Startup Grind to host Ahmed al Rawi, CEO of Malaeb
STARTUP Oman (www.startupoman.om), the Sultanate’s only online platform created by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs and the designated chapter of Startup Grind in Oman, is hosting Startup Grind on Sunday, February 26.
Joining Startup Grind is Ahmed al Rawi, co-founder and CEO of Malaeb, based in Bahrain. Malaeb is a community app for football players where they can book pitches and challenge other teams.
Ahmed’s entrepreneurial journey started at the age of 19 when Selfie Station, a project he developed for fun for a university event, turned into a viable business due to customer demand. He sold the business for a 100 times return in 18 months. Ahmed now oversees Malaeb’s growth and expansion to the GCC countries as well as the development of the social features and the community aspect of the app that are being developed.
With the vision of becoming the social network for football players and 5,000 members signed up in just four months of its launch in Bahrain, it’s on its way to expansion to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE and Oman.
Over 50 entrepreneurs, students and young professionals are expected at Al Rudha space in Ghala to hear Ahmed’s story to entrepreneurship. “We are thrilled to feature a young tech entrepreneur such as Ahmed on the Startup Grind stage” says, Startup Oman Co-founder Ali Daud. “Ahmed’s experience showcases how to succeed in developing tech solutions for everyday problems, and how to expand an app into a regional product. We hope Ahmed’s story will inspire Omani entrepreneurs to develop apps to solve the problems they face.”
