MUSCAT: Whispers of Serenity, the first mental wellness clinic in Oman, launched the unique initiative ‘Not Alone Convoy’ in December 2016, where mental health issues are discussed in the different regions of the Sultanate. The Convoy will be visiting a total of 6 cities, one each month, with the goal of emphasising the importance of mental health in an interactive approach with people. The convoy will continue its journey on February 25 in Nizwa, following its successful commencement in Seeb and Musandam.

The goal behind visiting different cities is to raise the calibre of awareness regarding mental health issues as well as to enable the people who may be suffering from stress, anxiety and depression or other issues to reach out to psychologists.

Significant issues have been raised and discussed in the previous events, such as bullying in schools, emotional intelligence, and extreme stress at the work place amongst many other issues. The topics addressed were relevant to both children and adults, effectively engaging the audience in an interactive session, where many questions were raised and doubts clarified by the team of experts. Moreover, quick solutions and a first-aid kit specific to mental health were introduced to the audience, to facilitate the tackling of mental health problems before augmenting.

The convoy’s upcoming session in Nizwa will be led by Sayyida Basma al Said and Roma Fernandes, both clinical Psychologists at Whispers of Serenity Clinic, Sayyida Taghreed al Said, the founder of the edutainment centre ‘My Book & Me’ and Dr Ameera al Ruaidan, Head of the mental health department at the Ministry of Health.

Furthermore, the convoy will include social media leaders and bloggers, namely Sayyida Mayya al Said and Halima al Abdul Salam, as well as a team of photographers and film-makers and dedicated volunteers, all of whom are passionate about raising awareness for this cause. The event is scheduled to be held on Saturday and is to take place from 9 am-3 pm at Marina Hall on Wikalat Street.
