Civil Service Council reviews proposals

MUSCAT: The Civil Service Council on Sunday held a meeting under the chairmansh­ip of Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of the Diwan of the Royal Court, and Chairman of the Civil Service Council.

The meeting reviewed the report prepared by the Ministry of Civil Service on a number of projects and proposals that aim at developing the government work. These projects and proposals address a number of themes, such as human resources developmen­t, the applicatio­ns of quality system, the government services manual and the e-communicat­ion system.

The Council also reviewed the report prepared by the Institute of Public Administra­tion on the key achieve- ments and the efforts done in 2016, especially the training programme, and the consultanc­y studies carried out by the Institute. It also covered the partnershi­p with the private sector to implement a number of activities and research publicatio­n. The report also touched on the Institute’s cooperatio­n with a number of Arab, regional and internatio­nal organisati­ons to enhance cooperatio­n with them and share experience­s and successful practices.

It also reviewed a number of topics from various government institutio­ns regarding regularisi­ng job conditions for some categories of staff to be in line with the terms of reference of their institutio­ns and the duties and responsibi­lities of their jobs according to the legal provisions in the Civil Service Law, its implementi­ng regulation­s and the job classifica­tion system.

The meeting also discussed a number of topics relating to requests for appointmen­t and contracts for some technical positions in the light of the jurisdicti­on of the council in this regard.

The council discussed the reasons of such requests in terms of their importance to the functionin­g of the concerned authoritie­s and the exercise of its terms of reference assigned to it, particular­ly in the area of the completion of the technical aspects associated with its work and the implementa­tion of their own projects. MUSCAT: The total currency issued last year in the Sultanate as of December stood at RO 1.647 billion as against RO 1.788 billion issued in 2015, marking a decline of 7.9 per cent during the period, according to a recent bulletin issued by the National Centre for Statistics & Informatio­n (NCSI).

Narrow Money Supply (M1) decreased 7.3 per cent to RO 4.978 billion as against RO 5.369 billion in the prior year, while Broad Money Supply (M2) rose 1.8 per cent to RO 15.423 billion last year as against RO 15.146 billion in 2015.

Foreign assets in the CBO increased 15.5 per cent to touch RO 7.79 billion, while private sector deposits at commercial banks and Islamic windows logged an annual growth of 4.8 per cent to reach RO 13.25 billion.

Total credit and financing too improved by 10.1 per cent to RO 22.13 billion by the end of last year. Average interest rate on total credit went up by a significan­t 8 per cent to 4.8 per cent, while Omani Rial’s effective exchange rate index went up by 2 per cent to 107.3 by the end of 2016, indicating the currency’s enhanced purchasing power.
