Plant protection, analysis training course

MUSCAT: The Training Course on Plant Protection and Statistica­l Analysis began on Sunday at Muscat Holiday Inn under the auspices of Dr Ahmed bin Nasser bin Abdullah al Bakri, Undersecre­tary, Ministry of Agricultur­e and Fisheries for Agricultur­e.

The training course is organized by the Ministry of Agricultur­e and Fisheries in cooperatio­n with the Internatio­nal Center for Agricultur­al Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) from February 26 till March 2.

The training course aims to raise the scientific and technical level of the participan­ts in the diagnosis of date palms diseases and the preparatio­n and design of research experiment­s, highlighti­ng the date palms disease, symptoms, spread of disease, actions taken to control it, as well as the introducti­on of the integrated management programmes for these diseases and how to implement them.

The training course is part of the developmen­t of sustainabl­e systems for the production of date palms in GCC countries and raise the efficiency of researcher­s and specialist­s’ capabiliti­es in the field of plant protection in the GCC countries.

Twenty researcher­s and specialist­s from all GCC countries take part in the training session, as well as three internatio­nal experts and a number of specialist­s in the field of integrated management of date palms diseases and statistica­l analysis of studies and experiment­s and monitoring of diseases by using the GIS and remote sensing systems, which is one of the modern and important methods that are addressed by the training course.
