Salalah to host inaugural league final
MUSCAT: Oman Cricket board of directors will be in Salalah this weekend to witness and commemorate the progress of cricket in Salalah. Oman Cricket, in its bid to develop cricket in regional Oman began committees in Sohar and Salalah in 2015.
Oman Cricket ClubSalalah started their hardball tournament with 24 local teams. The teams were divided into 6 groups of 4 teams each and matches were played in round robin league format. The top 2 teams from each group progressed to next round where the matches were conducted in knockout format.
The final will be played between Al Taba Trading and Ardaf LLC on March 3 from 2pm onwards.
Nilesh Derani (Salalah official) stated that finals will be graced by dignitaries such as Oman Cricket board members — Kanak Khimji, Madhursinh Jesrani, Kiran Asher, Dilip Mehta, Oman national team coach Duleep Mendis and captain Sultan Ahmed, general manager Iqbal Ariwala, women’s cricket coordinator Vaishali Jesrani and Khimji Ramdas director Anil Khimji. Dr Moosa Ahmed Ali, Director General of the Directorate of Sports Affairs (Dhofar Region), will be present as the guest of honour for the event. The prize distribution ceremony and felicitation will follow the match.
Oman Cricket thanked the Ministry of Sports Affairs and the Dhofar Municipality for granting permission and overseeing the smooth functioning of the inaugural cricket season in Salalah.
