Tourism sector progress reviewed

MUSCAT: The third meeting of the Steering Committee of the Tourism Sector held at the Tourism Ministry on Wednesday to follow up the outputs of the economic diversific­ation enhancemen­t initiative­s under the chairmansh­ip of Ahmed bin Nasser al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, and in the presence of the implementa­tion and follow up support unit, as well as representa­tives from government agencies, and private sector’s companies and institutio­ns.

The meeting reviewed what has been achieved on the developmen­t of work progress on the tourism sector initiative­s and the challenges facing some of the initiative­s in order to accelerate the pace of work in the implementa­tion of initiative­s that came out of tourism laboratory to achieve economic diversific­ation, which the Sultanate is seeking in light of global economic conditions due to low oil prices.

The meeting reviewed the initiative of the developmen­t of the natural activities and activities of challenge and adventure.

The Initiative Team held a meeting earlier with officials from the Ministry of Tourism, where the activities guide was reviewed, and got final approval.

The meeting touched on the key performanc­e initiative indicators. The team explained that work was in progress to complete the initiative­s, through regular meetings with the heads of the teams and initiative­s to see what has been reached of developmen­ts, work progress and the challenges they face and how to solve them.

Those performanc­e indicators should be completed later this month.

The Steering Committee is seeking through economic diversific­ation initiative­s to harmonise its plans to go with the strategy of Oman Tourism to develop this sector, accelerate the pace of implementa­tion of the plans in the field of tourism so as to achieve economic diversific­ation and help stakeholde­rs to implement their projects and plans in accordance with best practices.
