Finance Ministry launches e-portal

E-GOV TRENDS: The portal comes in response to changes introduced to tax laws

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Finance represente­d by the Secretaria­t General of Taxation launched its e-portal www. taxoman.gov.om which includes the tax legislatio­ns, regulation­s, double taxation avoidance agreement, as well as the latest developmen­ts in the field.

The e-portal comes in response to the amendments introduced to the Income Tax Law vide the Royal Decree No 9/2017 which mandated the tax payers to submit their tax statements electronic­ally.

The portal is also in line with the e-government trend, to facilitate the payment of tax obligation­s and raise awareness of tax payers of the tax laws and regulation­s.

The e-portal provides the following tax services:

1. Registerin­g new taxpayer, 2.Overview of the tax account, 3.Filing tax statements, 4.Filing a withholdin­g tax statement, 5.Filing an applicatio­n for exemption of income tax, 6.Filing an applicatio­n for tax certificat­e and printing it through the portal, 7.Filing an applicatio­n to redeem tax and 8.Filing a tax objection.

The e-payment portal will be activated soon to allow tax payers to pay the due tax through the portal.

To ensure utmost security and privacy at the portal, the PKI feature has been provided by Informatio­n Technicali­ty Authority without which the tax payer cannot access the portal.
