Finance Ministry launches e-portal

E-GOV TRENDS: The portal comes in response to changes introduced to tax laws

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Finance represented by the Secretariat General of Taxation launched its e-portal www. taxoman.gov.om which includes the tax legislations, regulations, double taxation avoidance agreement, as well as the latest developments in the field.

The e-portal comes in response to the amendments introduced to the Income Tax Law vide the Royal Decree No 9/2017 which mandated the tax payers to submit their tax statements electronically.

The portal is also in line with the e-government trend, to facilitate the payment of tax obligations and raise awareness of tax payers of the tax laws and regulations.

The e-portal provides the following tax services:

1. Registering new taxpayer, 2.Overview of the tax account, 3.Filing tax statements, 4.Filing a withholding tax statement, 5.Filing an application for exemption of income tax, 6.Filing an application for tax certificate and printing it through the portal, 7.Filing an application to redeem tax and 8.Filing a tax objection.

The e-payment portal will be activated soon to allow tax payers to pay the due tax through the portal.

To ensure utmost security and privacy at the portal, the PKI feature has been provided by Information Technicality Authority without which the tax payer cannot access the portal.
