Omani teams at ‘Make the Future’ fest, Shell Eco-marathon contest

Features bright energy ideas that address global energy challenge

MUSCAT: Shell on Sunday brought student teams from Asia, Australia and New Zealand for Make the Future Singapore, a four-day festival that features bright energy ideas and solutions that address the global energy challenge.

Make the Future festival features the legendary Shell Eco-marathon challenge in which college and high school students from all over the world compete to build an ultra efficient vehicles that use the lease amount of energy.

Two Omani teams are participat­ing in the Shell Ecomaratho­n that is taking place at the festival this year. The teams are from the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and German University of Technology (GUTech) and are being sponsored by Oman’s national aircarrier; Oman Air.

The team from Sultan Qaboos University has so far passed the requisite technical inspection­s successful­ly and is ready to compete on track.

The team from GUtech is participat­ing with a woman driver, who is a computer programmer by profession; and is the first woman to compete in Shell Eco-marathon’s Oman contingent.
