Calligraphy exhibition opens

MUSCAT: The Arabian-Indian Islamic Calligraphy Exhibition organised by the Indian Embassy as part of “India Festival’ in the Sultanate in cooperation with Oman Society of Fine Arts (OSFA) of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science, the Diwan of Royal Court was opened on Tuesday. The exhibition lasts till March 25.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Abdulaziz bin Mohammed al Rowas, Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan for Cultural Affairs, in the presence of Indra Mani Pandey, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate, and a number of artists.

The Indian Ambassador said the aim of the exhibition is to enhance communication among fine artists in India and Oman in the field of calligraphy and share experiences.

The chief guest and the attendees then toured the exhibition which includes 40 calligraphy art works.

It should be noted that the items on display are from The Rampur Raza Library, one of the world’s magnificent, unparalleled repository of cultural heritage and treasure-house of knowledge built up by successive Nawabs of Rampur State.

It contains very rare and valuable collection of manuscripts, historical documents, specimens of Islamic calligraphy, miniature paintings, astronomical instruments and rare illustrated works.
