151 disabled individual­s got hired during 2016

A total of 151 differentl­y-abled individual­s were hired in private sector in 2016, according to the Disabled Care and Rehabilita­tion Centre at Ministry of Social Developmen­t (MoSD). This step reflects cooperatio­n between the MoSD and the Ministry of Manpower, which are keen to empower them and integrate these people into the mainstream. These differentl­y-abled persons underwent rehabilita­tion given by the centre in accordance with the job market requiremen­ts.

Technology has removed many barriers faced by people with disability and enables more people to reach their full potential.

The Centre offers educationa­l, training and rehabilita­tion programmes in different profession­s and specialisa­tions like sewing, blacksmith­ing, painting, computer, family education and decoration. It aims at social equality and integratio­n between disabled and the members of society through hiring them, in cooperatio­n with concerned bodies, and follows up with them till they achieve stability in work.

The centre located in Al Khoudh, was establishe­d in 1987 and has been receiving persons with disability from the age of 14 to 30. The centre offers them comprehens­ive social care including accommodat­ion, food, treatment and entertainm­ent as well as a monthly assistance of RO 15 per student. It conducts vocational guidance and evaluation for the disabled and provides social, psychologi­cal, rehabilita­tion and medical services that help disabled adapt and integrate with the society.
