Everyone’s role to support government

-

Everyone of us realises the impact of decline in oil prices in our lives! In fact, it’s becoming a real issue for people all over the world. However, it’s normal that the oil producing countries are taking the biggest share of this dilemma and people are shouldering a bigger burden of suffering, especially in the Middle East where oil revenue is regarded the main source of national income.

Accordingly, it’s creating a remarkable budget deficit in some of these countries including the Sultanate.

Today, the decline in oil price is becoming a key excuse for business creating, job hunting or even when handling simple day-to-day activities. There is no way to avoid, but to join forces together and look for alternative plans and solutions to make the most out of this issue.

Saving schemes and other ways and techniques of reducing expenditure should be implemented. Otherwise, there is no end to the suffering of the people.

In spite of changes in people’s living standards or increase in their incomes, the oil prices have not been stabilised for the past couple of years. Hence, balance in overall national expenditure should be maintained during such difficult financial circumstances so governments can manage their economies and implement development plans accordingly.

As the saying goes, save your penny for a rainy day! Irrelevant expenditures, projects, activities should be suspended to save money for essential needs of the nation and its people.

As the Sultanate is one of the oil exporters in the region, it is experiencing the budget deficit like any other country in the region.

However, the government has been working on different plans to face the budget deficit and balance national development requirements.

Thanks to all the government bodies for sparing no effort to keep the living standard of citizens stable.

Everybody has seen how things are being controlled by the authorities and things are getting better slightly.

We are all sure that each department of the government is trying its best to sustain the pace of national development in all spheres of life.

Projects, for instance, are being prioritised as per the importance of national interest and people’s lives.

However, to keep this on track and minimise the impact of budget deficit on people’s lives, each one of us should contribute in supporting the government in its plans to overcome this issue.

As we are all mature enough to know how each can support, corporates and individuals should all join forces with the government. Always collective efforts and initiatives bring the best results and outcomes unlike random attempts from one party.

Although the government is capable of handling this issue, but our role is also needed.

Corporates are playing a bigger role to support the government organisations.

Thus, today private local and international companies in the Sultanate should be helping the government in setting up investment and business opportunities that contribute more revenue to the national GDP. As well, many companies can create thousands of jobs to graduates and job-seekers.

Not only that, but such corporates should contribute in funding some development projects or community initiatives as part of their corporate social responsibility to give back to the local community.

Individuals, especially employees, shall be more responsible when using government assets.

Case in a point, using government or corporate cars should be limited to duty period only and should be returned after working hours.

Strict rules and regulations should be made to stop employees from using government cars after working hours.

How many thousands of rials are being spent to refill these cars with oil while on the other hand this amount of money could have been saved!
