-

MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University has signed a Research Cooperation Programme with Omran on the provision of multiple services for the national event entitled ‘Linking Oman’s higher education institutions with the public and private sectors’.

The event is organised by SQU under the Office of the Deputy ViceChancellor for Postgraduate Studies and Research.

It will be held on May 7-9 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The Research Cooperation Programme was signed by Dr Rahma al Mahrooqi, SQU’s Deputy ViceChancellor for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Trevor McCartney, General Manager of the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The signing ceremony was attended by the members of the event’s preparatory committee and representatives of Omran the OCEC.

The Research Cooperation Programme is the result of Omran’s willingness to support SQU’s efforts in encouraging social and economic development across the strategic sectors while enhancing cooperation between the Sultanate’s academic institutions and those of the public and private sectors.

The event that the Cooperation Programme Research supports is a vital national event that seeks to help the country realise various strategic goals, including economic diversification, job growth, and efficiency.

It targets a number of important strategic sectors, including transport and logistics, manufacturing, tourism, fisheries, mining, banking, energy (including oil and gas and sustainable energy), and information and communication technology.

Through this initiative, SQU seeks to assume a leading role in helping meet the nation’s needs across these areas, especially in terms of research and innovation. All parties, including SQU and organisations from the private and public sectors, are currently making preparations to ensure that the event achieves its intended goals.

The recently concluded Research Cooperation Programme with Omran is one of the major steps in ensuring that the event is a great success.
