Talk highlights Japanese government scholarshi­ps

MUSCAT: The Office of Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n at SQU, in associatio­n with the Embassy of Japan in the Sultanate, organized a presentati­on about “Japanese Government Scholarshi­ps and Student Life in Japan” at the seminar hall of the College of Economics and Political Science at SQU. The event was presided over by Her Highness Sayyidah Dr Mona bint Fahd al Said, SQU Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n.

Addressing the gathering, of HH Sayyidah Dr Mona elaborated on the efforts of the Office of Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n towards providing students with opportunit­ies for higher studies in different countries, and Japan in particular, facilitate­d by scholarshi­ps and other means of financial support offered by the Sultanate and the host countries. Hideaki Yamamoto, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Japan, highlighte­d the longstandi­ng cooperatio­n between SQU and the Embassy. He called upon the Omani students to make use of the opportunit­ies for higher studies and research offered by various institutio­ns in Japan.

Tsuyoshi Hirata, Cultural Attaché, Embassy of Japan, talked about Japanese government scholarshi­ps available for Omanis. He said that the Embassy of Japan has begun the scholarshi­p applicatio­n process for Japanese Government Scholarshi­p 2018 for research students.

“The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan offers scholarshi­ps to internatio­nal students who wish to study in graduate courses at Japanese universiti­es as research students (either non-degree or degree students) under the Japanese Government Scholarshi­p Program. Dr Adil Abdullah al Mahdouri, Associate Researcher at SQU and former scholarshi­p students spoke on student life in Japan.
