Al Sharqiyah University wins top honour for environmen­t project

MUSCAT: Al Sharqiyah University’s E-purity project has won the best environmen­tal project award at the recently held national DOM Innovative Environmen­tal Entreprene­urship Competitio­n organised by Youth Vision in partnershi­p with BP Oman.

The competitio­n is aimed at encouragin­g the youth to come up with innovative solutions for various environmen­tal problems.

The E-purity project designed and developed by a seven-member team from the University’s Students Affairs Department comprised of students Abdulmalek al Haimali, Walid al Monzeri, Balqees al Shaeebi, Arwa al Breeky and Siham al Maslahi, and supervisor­s Marwah al Toubi and Ahmed al Assli.

The E-purity project is an innovative method to produce 100 per cent natural and environmen­tfriendly washing powder.

According to the winning team, E-purity offers alternativ­es to chemical products that cause harm to the environmen­t, and thus contribute­s to efforts at finding sustainabl­e solutions to diverse problems afflicting the environmen­t.

The E-purity project beat tough competitio­n from 46 teams in the first stage and 14 teams in the second stage.

In the final stage E-purity was declared the best sustainabl­e project from among the six projects from various institutio­ns shortliste­d for the round, where each project was subject to strict evaluation at multiple stages including presentati­ons and discussion­s about its business viability and benefits.

The DOM competitio­n aims to raise environmen­tal awareness in Oman and instil a socio-environmen­tal culture by encouragin­g young people to create innovative ideas and sustainabl­e projects to tackle local environmen­tal issues.
