Need for latest tracking devices in school buses

Several bus dealers and safety solution providers are keen on working with the Ministry of Education to help improve school transport services in the country.

They were speaking to the Observer on the sidelines of the School Transport and Safety Expo 2017 in Muscat on Sunday.

The products on offer include a Mercedes bus with CCTV and rear view camera system, standard three-point seat belts, and safety and breakable others.

Solutions by Majees Technical services include a mobile applicatio­n that connects parents with their children and the school bus, enabling them to locate their child and the bus when the child is going to school or returning home.

A company called Streemax is offering solutions such as face recognitio­n, front collision warning, lane departure warning system, one-key alarm and smart search. glass windows, The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has warned the public against sharing personal informatio­n and photograph­s on social media since it is fraught with a risk of electronic blackmail.

The warning comes after a recent incident of cyber blackmai l which ended in a murder.

An Omani woman stabbed a 23-yearold man to death after he allegedly blackmaile­d her.

He had threatened to circulate her photos on the social media.

“This (the part of our among warning) campaign is to educate the public. Many have fallen victim after sharing their personal informatio­n,” a reliable source at the ROP told the Observer.

He said many innocent people have become victims of such blackmail. “Predators can take different shapes.

The solution is to avoid sharing personal informatio­n on the social media,” said the source.

“It’s not just about blackmail,” he said. “Sharing p e r sona l informatio­n on the social media could get people implicated in theft cases,” the officer said.
