Encouragem­ent to MICE industry

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry seeks to encourage setting up businesses and attracting local and foreign investment­s to enhance growth of the national economy and diversify sources of the national income.

The ministry encourages Meetings, Incentives, Conference­s, and Events (MICE) industry urging public, private, civil society organisati­ons, as well as diplomatic, regional and internatio­nal organisati­ons in the Sultanate to organise conference­s and seminars in the Sultanate. These conference­s and exhibition­s provide an ideal opportunit­y for sharing informatio­n and marketing the tourism potentials of the Sultanate.

They also contribute to enhancing the occupancy rates at the hotels and MICE facilities.

Awadh bin Said al Alawi, Director of Commercial Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said that the Sultanate’s attaches a great importance to the developmen­t of MICE industry as it plays a remarkable role in the growth of the national economy.

He affirmed that the laws and regulation­s in force in the Sultanate provide freedom in doing businesses including MICE industry. The Sultanate has also establishe­d Oman Office for Conference­s at the Ministry of Tourism to facilitate the organisati­on of internatio­nal conference­s in the Sultanate.
