119,000 administered MMR vaccination in Dhofar Governorate

STAY HEALTHY: Immunisation drive extended for one more week in the governorate

A total of 119,000 people have been vaccinated against measles in Dhofar Governorate during the week-long vaccination drive against the disease. Keeping in mind the huge turnout, the Ministry of Health has decided to extend the drive for one more week. Thus, Saturday (May 20) being the last day of the campaign under the previous schedule, the drive now would continue till May 27.

According to statistics cited by the Directorate-General of Health Services in Dhofar, out of 119,000 people immunised against MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella), 40,740 are Omanis and 78,260 are nonOmani residents.

According to DG of health office in Dhofar, there were still many people in the targeted age group of 20-35 years of age left out of the immunisation process, so the extension of date for one week was necessary.

“The teams formed for the job are doing excellent job, as they are covering most of the institutions and community associations in the region. Apart from health centres, they are visiting hypermarkets, supermarkets, educational institutions, Port of Salalah and airport between 7.30 am and 9.30 pm,” said an official, who is part of this drive.

According to him, the campaign teams are put up at most of the military and civil health establishments including the Armed Forces Hospital in Salalah, the Health Complex at the Diwan of Royal Court Salalah, the ROP Hospital, and almost all the private clinics.

He exhorted all sections of people to come out and take advantage of the immunisation drive, as that was a must to free the society from the disease and make the surroundings more comfortable to live.

Field teams have been deployed all over the governorate to conduct the campaign, as it targets 95 per cent of the citizens and expatriates to be covered under the campaign.
