PDO organises workshop on investment opportunit­ies

MUSCAT: Petroleum Developmen­t Oman (PDO), in associatio­n with the Centre of Studies and Economic Research, organised a workshop for SLCCs (Super Local Community Contractor­s) on Sunday focusing on the most promising investment opportunit­ies in the various sectors of economic diversific­ation in Oman.

The workshop was held at the Grand Millennium Hotel, Muscat, under the patronage of Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy, Minister of Oil and Gas, and was attended by nearly 100 people.

Ahmed bin Said Kashob (Centre of Studies and Economic Research) welcomed the gathering, and Raoul Restucci, the MD of Petroleum Developmen­t Oman, delivered the opening speech. Mr Restucci noted that since 2012, PDO has awarded contracts worth more than RO 320 million to various SLCCs, and has done significan­tly to develop the local communitie­s in the concession areas.

The workshop aimed at promoting economic diversity highlighti­ng lucrative investment opportunit­ies in various sectors including tourism, manufactur­ing, renewable energy, logistics, mining and PDO industrial areas. SLCCs held an exhibition and also presented their experience­s in oil concession areas, as part of the workshop. The government­al efforts aimed at reaching the maximum benefits to local communitie­s in the oil concession areas was also highlighte­d at the workshop.

The President of the Omani Economic Society, Dr Said bin Mohammed al Saqri, spoke about “The Reality of the Omani Economy”, while Ghalib bin Said al Mamari (from Tanfeedh) elaborated on the activities of the Implementa­tion and Follow up unit at Tanfeedh.

Shaikh Hilal bin Ghalib al Hinai, the adviser to the Minister of Tourism, outlined the investment opportunit­ies available in the tourism sector, while Eng Nahla bint Abd al-Wahab al Hamidiya, the DirectorGe­neral of Industry at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, spoke about the investment opportunit­ies in the manufactur­ing sector.
