Darsait sewage treatment plant to be ready by 2018

Haya Water is currently working to complete the Darsait STP project, considered to be one of the largest and most significan­t projects in the region designed with the highest standards and specificat­ions.

Said bin Rashid al Asmi, general manager for projects in Haya Water, said this STP will serve the residents of the areas of Wadi Kabir, Al Humriya, Ruwi, Bait Al Falaj, Darsait, Costal Darsait and Aynt. The capacity of the STP in its first phase will be 37,000 cubic meters per day and it will be increased to 50,000 during the second phase. The STP is expected to be completed during the last quarter of 2018.

Said added that the location of the STP was selected due to certain features of the area and at the top of this is the low gravity that will contribute to the easy flow of water to the STP. The constructi­on of the new STP is part of the company’s efforts to connect houses and other facilities with a modern wastewater system and to raise the capacity of wastewater treatment by taking advantage of the latest technologi­es in the field of wastewater treatment.

The STP will use the Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR) technology, which is considered one of the best systems worldwide that produces high-quality and pollution-free treated wastewater in accordance with local and internatio­nal standards and specificat­ions.

Moreover, the new STP will be completely covered and it will be equipped with a high-tech ventilatio­n system for odor control. The shape of the building will be done using modern architectu­re.

The STP scope of work will also include the establishm­ent of recreation­al facilities in the area. In fact, Haya Water is considerin­g constructi­ng two football fields and open spaces for those who wish to practice any kind of sports. The location of these two football fields and other facilities will be on the old STP site, which will be demolished after the official opening of the new STP.
